Henry Ani, 17, drew buildings in pencil, framed the intricate artworks, and sold them for $15 each on the train in Boston.
That same blend of artistic ability and practicality led him to engineering, which he became very, very good at. Henry is one of the main reasons Brockton High School’s drone team won first place at a national competition this spring, according to multiple instructors at Empower Yourself, the nonprofit that runs the team.
Henry is “doing engineering work at a level that I’ve seen college grads struggle with,” said Donato Kava, a volunteer instructor and professional engineer.
Henry sat for an interview with The Enterprise in the Brockton High classroom where the drone team stores their equipment. Catherine Rickert, an administrator who happened to be in the building at the time, remarked that Henry is both “brilliant” and “kind.”
